Introduction
What do you want to be when you grow up? This is the question I have been asked my whole life, from age four to now. The only difference today is that it is phrased more specifically. Today, I get asked where I want to stay, what corporation I want to work for, or which school I want to join for grad school. Over the years, I have always had trouble figuring out what to do when I finish my education since I was interested in many things. In elementary school, I wanted to be an astronaut. By the time I went to middle school, the ambition of becoming an astronaut transformed into being a doctor, specifically a neurosurgeon. After attending high school, I wanted to be an architect and urban planner, which has been my ambition ever since. I kept changing my dreams throughout my education as my interests and goals evolved. Even though I still have many interests and hobbies, I have a better idea of what I want to do and where. In this blog, I will briefly describe why I want to achieve my dream job.

Seattle
The first criteria of my dream job is that it is based in Seattle, Washington. I want to work in Seattle for several reasons. One is that it is beautiful, with gorgeous lakes and mountains; another is that it is a major hub for the latest technology and innovation since Microsoft and Amazon are headquartered there. Lastly, I want to live on the west coast of the US for a reasonable amount of time, as it may teach me something that I have never learned while living on the east coast my whole life. After going to Seattle for a cruise trip to Alaska two years ago, I completely fell in love with the area. During my visit over the summer, the weather was gorgeous, being in the high 70s with blue skies. After going to the top of the Space Needle, I was able to catch a good view of the city juxtaposed under Mount Rainier. From this view, it reminded me of Switzerland, from the ever-green grasslands to the snow-coated mountains. As a big fan of Switzerland, I decided to live in Seattle someday to still experience that beauty without leaving the country and my family. In addition to the magnificent scenery, Seattle has many unique skyscrapers embodying innovation. For example, the Space Needle is one of the most fascinating structures ever built, as it was made more than half a century ago and is relatively complex in design. In addition, another phenomenal work of architecture in Seattle was Amazon’s corporate office. It is unique since it takes the shape of three large domes, which are fully transparent from the outside. Additionally, the office has a well-maintained park right next to it where people can hang out and enjoy the pleasant weather. A couple of reasons why Seattle has such unique architecture is because of its tech industry. Seattle is home to companies like Microsoft, Amazon, and Starbucks, making it a great spot to meet extraordinary people and ideas. I also want to work in Seattle because I want to live on the west coast for a specific amount of time. By living on the east coast, I’m developing a narrow view of the country and life, and by moving to the west coast, I can learn more about myself.

Creativity
Now that I have established that my dream job is located in Seattle, the next aspect is that it is heavily based on creative and practical skills. Being a student majoring in urban planning and design, I am constantly exposing myself to practical skills on the job, like drafting site plans on Autocad or designing buildings on SketchUp. I love these activities and would like to do more of them when I start working since I am constantly being creative and practical at the same time. As someone who loves to draw and be artistic, I would like to work at a job that allows me to design and get creative. A few ways I hope to do that is by contributing to the designs of specific projects and having a say in how and where they should be built. Designing is an activity I never get bored of, and if I can frequently do it in my job, I’ve almost landed my dream job.

Travel
In addition to living in Seattle and embracing my creative side at the job, the last criteria for my dream job are for it to be globally based. I want to work at a company based internationally because of the potential traveling opportunities. As someone deeply interested in the world, and the various cultures it provides, I want to experience different places around the world through work. I want to see how different people conduct business and develop cities since there is always something to learn by looking at other people. Being able to travel allows me to see how unique towns are built, from the smallest to the most significant factors. In addition to creating new experiences and memories, traveling around the world will help me expand my perspective and learn different skills that may be helpful in the workplace. Furthermore, traveling can help me learn a new language and connect with many more people when necessary. I want to travel frequently through my job, to develop more experiences and have fun since my career will take up a large portion of my life for a long time, which should be exciting and fulfilling.

Conclusion
If anyone were to ask me who I want to be when I grow up or what I want to do when I grow up, it would be this specific job. I want to be an architect for a global company headquartered in Seattle. Even though this may not seem like much, it fulfills almost all of my desires, ultimately leading toward a dream transformed into reality.
