Hello, I’m Abhijay

Hello, My name is Abhijay Kulkarni. I am currently a sophomore at Rutgers University majoring in Urban Planning and Design. I was born in New Brunswick, NJ, and raised in Northern Virginia. I would use five words to describe myself: cars, creativity, cities, food, and Earth.

Cars

The only toys I used to play with for hours and hours were car diecast models. I always loved the design and purpose of cars when I was young since I almost saw them as animate objects with a body and mind. After the first Cars movie came out, I tried collecting as many miniature models of the characters as possible, ultimately to a point where I had almost every single model of the characters throughout the first two movies. Even though I don’t play with toy cars anymore, my passion for cars has not faded since I like to research and learn about the newest vehicles on the market during my free time.

Creativity

By the time I was roughly 5 to 6 years old, I had used to take empty pages of paper from the printer tray and doodle on them. I ended up drawing countless patterns that were relatively complex and sophisticated. For years I used to draw different patterns and abstract shapes, which evolved into building designs.

Cities

After visiting New York City for the first time when I was young, I loved the city’s atmosphere and visuals with the high-rise skyscrapers juxtaposed with the Hudson. From that moment on, I fell in love with cities and wanted to be an architect to design my city spaces someday. My ambition was to be an architect for years until my junior year of high school. By then, I met an alum who majored in urban planning and design. He taught me about his major and convinced me to pursue an urban planning and design degree. Three years later, I am now at Rutgers University, majoring in urban planning and design, and I am currently on track to pursue my degree in the next couple of years. So far in my life, cities have played a significant role and will continue to have an effect in the near future.

Food

Food is a word that describes me well since I love to eat. Whenever I go on vacation with family and friends, I look forward to lunch and dinner just because of the food. Through my Indian heritage, I became used to distinct and spicy flavors, almost making the food come to life. Eating food has been like a light switch for my emotions. For example, eating good food automatically brightens my day when I am occasionally down.

Earth

Lastly, Earth is another word that describes me well since I love to explore different parts of the world. One of my hobbies is roaming around on google maps and seeing the other streets and neighborhoods in cities worldwide. It gives me the perspective that the world is vast and diverse, and there is always something to look forward to and be excited about. Based on all these characteristics and experiences, I am where I am today at the moment this blog is written up because of these five words.
